The safety of our colleagues is our highest priority and due to the nature of our work on roofs, it is paramount that it can be conducted in a safe working environment, whether it be building leak investigation or electronic testing of waterproofing membranes.

The Work at Height Regulations apply to any work being undertaken at height and require that “Every employer shall ensure that no person engages in any activity, including organisation, planning and supervision, in relation to work at height or work equipment for use in such work unless he is competent to do so or, if being trained, is being supervised by a competent person”

As such, all of our building leak investigation field staff regularly undertake work at height training which also includes the use of Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) and rescue from height.

PFPE training is undertaken at a local training centre and includes how to use a safety harness, lanyards and accessories, inspection of equipment prior to use and the safe use of anchor points.

When working in an environment where there is potential for a fall, it is essential to have a rescue plan. For this reason, all site personnel at Thornton Consulting are trained in the use of rescue equipment with safety harnesses. The course covers both Gotcha & Ikar systems which are the two most common devices used in the industry.

All Personal Fall Protection Equipment must be regularly inspected by the user. In addition, it is recommended that a formal in-depth inspection and record is made of all equipment at regular intervals, a minimum of every six months, by a competent person. We have designated member of the team who has undertaken the relevant training and is responsible for this task.

Health and safety in the construction industry has come a long way in the last couple of decades and it is important for all companies and individuals to do their part in keeping safe. For that reason, it is essential to periodically undertake training relevant to your working environment.  For more information please call us on +44 (0) 1342 410508
